You’ll earn one talent point per level. At level seventy you will have a total of 61 points. These points are used to improve abilities and to gain new abilities. Every class has different talents, but they all have three talent trees. Each of these trees is geared towards making your character better at a certain type of play. For instance, the warriors have arms, fury, and protection. Arms are for doing large amounts of damage at the beginning of a fight, called burst damage. Fury is focused on damage per second (dps), staying constant for a longer fight. Protection is for tanking designed to gain and keep aggro while withstand lots of damage (a fun job if you can just stand there). It is typically thought that you should stick to one tree for the most part because; the really good talents tend to be in the middle and bottom of the trees. If you spread your points to different trees you may not be able to get to the talents you really want. After reaching higher talents in one tree it is not uncommon to move to a different tree to establish versatility, and for other damage or defense talents. For more on talent building for your specific class check out wowwiki.com. They are a very good site for the different types of builds people use commonly and the reasons for these builds.

Now say you put all your points in the arms tree as a warrior, then some one tells you about tanking and you fall in love with it. So, now you want to go with protection. You do not have to wait till you level to get more points and be stuck with all those arms tree points. You can respec your points, but it will cost you. The first respec is one gold, the second is ten gold. Every time you respec the price of a respec goes up. So only respec if you really want to. Some players will run one tree up to a certain level then respec to a different tree. This is done a lot of times to make solo leveling easier for the lower levels. Then is switched to a more group or instance related tree at higher levels.

Now you know about what talents are and what you can do with them. To use your talents open the talent tree window. The button is located next to your character button. It looks like a red arrow button. Once it is open there will be three tabs at the bottom. This is how you switch between the three trees. To place a talent point in the tree you left click on the talent want to place it in. At first only the first line will be available. Every line after that requires five points in the previous line. So to get to the very last talent, you have to have forty points in the tree. It for the most part doesn’t matter what order they are in. But there are a few that have big yellow lines between them. These require talents in the upper line of talents to access the lower line of talents. Just remember that the better talents are usually lower lines of the trees. So be careful how you spend your points.

If you are not sure how you want to spend those points you have earned the most effective way possible visit wowwiki.com. It is the best talent guide site I have found. You can also check out class guides at worldofwarcraft.com. There is some good information there in forums from other players. World of Warcraft will also give you an idea of what the majority of people expect you to spec as. Like as a warrior people except you to go protection to be a tank. Don’t let that stop you from play how you want but it are a good heads up of what people may expect. This will make it easier to explain ahead of time that you are speced different from the normal. The most important part about talents is to pick the tree that fits your play style so you can enjoy playing. Cause this is supposed to be fun not work. So go play and have a good time.

Interent sites

So questing is the most experience for you buck. But what if you have 5 quest and all five are vague as to where to go or what to get to complete the quest. Instead of not doing the quest use an internet site to help find the information. There are several but I personally use Thottbot. You can look up the quest and see where other people have found the objectives and what they used to complete the quest. You can also use this information to plan out your route. This way you can complete as many quest as possible at one time. Say two quest are on one side of the map and three quest are on the other side of the map. Now you now which to do before you go back and are not just running around with no direction. You may also realize that two quest are in the same area that you didnt think were. It will also reduce the questing time because instead of running out and completing a quest and running back to turn t in. Then doing it agian for the next quest that is in the same area. Now its only one trip out and back. This will let you get more quest done faster. Its so much fun to go and get about 5 or 6 quest done and turn them in. You get to watch you experience bar jump up.

The site will also give you an idea of experience reward amounts and what quest rewards you can choose from. It will also tell you what quest are part of chains. There are many quest chains in WoW meaning that you have to complete one quest to do the next quest. These usually have only and experience reward until the final quest of the chain. Thottbot will tell you how many quest are in the cahin and what rewards you will recieve from doing the chain.

Thottbot will also tell you where a quest starts and ends. This is helpful if you cant find the Non-player Charater(NPC) to turn the quest in to. You can also use get quest that you want to do but cant find the beginning NPC. You may use this when you see some one with a weapon or armor piece you want. So they tell you they got it as a quest reward. Then you go to Thottbot and look up the quest and find out where to get the quest at. This same thing can be done in conjunction with the WoW Armory. Say you look up an upgrade for a chest piece and the upgrade is a quest reward. Now you know how to find where to get it. This can also be used on items that come from drops. Say some one tells you that there item came from a drop or your upgrade piece is a drop. Go to Thottbot and look it up. It will tell yo uwhere it drops form, what levels drop it, and what mobs to look for it to drop from. The site will also give you the drop rates of the different mobs. Now if you see that an item drops form lots of different mobs at several different levels, both high and low levels, then this is likely a world drop. Which means it can drop anywhere at anytime. Drop rates for world drops are low usually. You may play all the way to level 70 and never pick up a particular world drop. Some world drops rates are very very low adn are very expensive on the auction house. Other world drops can be found on the auction house for reasonable amount but aren't necassarily worth paying for. I usually stick to quest rewards because they are usually pretty good and they are both free and help you to level.

So as you can see putting a site like Thottbot, Wowwiki, and Wowhead on a favorites link can be very useful. The more yo play the more you are likely ot use it. These sites also carry more than just quest and mob info. They have a lot of other features to check out.

Leveling Guide

OK so now we know about the classes and the professions and how we can make money. So what is next? Well how to level of course. This is what allows you to become stronger and learn new and more powerful abilities. Now we ask ourselves what is the easiest, quickest, least time consuming way to level. First let me tell you how you level. At each level you have a certain amount of experience points you must obtain to get to the next level. The lower levels require less experience and as you go up levels each one requires more and more experience.

Now to earn experience there are two ways, by killing mobs or by completing quest. for each kill you make you earn a small amount of experience. For each quest you complete you earn a large amount of experience. WoW is a quest based game. The quickest way to level is by completing quest. It is the biggest bang for the buck. Now at low levels like say just starting at level one it may not seem like quest are that important to leveling. Because only needing 400 experience and earning between 50 and 55 experience per kill you level pretty fast. This 12.5 percent of the total experience need. But the quest gives 86 experience equaling 20.5 percent of the total needed. Then at level two when 805 experience to level you gain 44-58 experience per kill and 170 per quest. This is 5.5-7.2 percent per kill and 21.1 percent per quest of the total. As you can see quest hold their percentage of your total experience need where as kills do not. Another reason to get used to doing the quest now is so that when you get to higher levels and need to do quest to level it is more of a habit by then. So keep the grinding (killing everything in site for drops or experience) to a minimum and to complete quest.

A very important thing about experience to know, you wont notice this until you hit level 6, if a mob is more than 5 levels below you you will not receive experience for the kill. The easiest way to know if you will gain experience from a kill is by looking at the mobs portrait pane. This is at the top of the screen next to your portrait pane when you click on a mob. By their portrait you will see a number that represents the mobs level. It will be a color and that color will tell you two thing, how tough it will be for you to kill and how much experience is possible from the kill.
Red- you will need help to kill the mob and give the most possible experience
Orange- you may most likely need help killing the mob and gives better than average experience
Yellow- you should be able to kill the mob solo and gives average experience
Green- you can kill the mob solo and gives less than average experience
Grey- you can easily kill the mob solo and gives no experience
These colors are also the same for quest in your quest log.

The only exception to the rule is elite mobs. You will know them by the elite tag that follows the name of the mob. Elites are just that, elite. They have more armor, resistance, and health points. They also hit a lot harder doing more damage. You may be able to take down one lone elite by yourself that is the same level as you. If you do though you will have used all of you abilities and probably health and mana potions. Then you will have to wait for your health and mana to regenerate as well as your cool downs to time out. This is why instances are run in groups. If you see a quest in you quest log that ends with (group) or (dungeon) then you will be fighting elites to complete the quest. So you will need to find a group to complete those quest and to do instances.

Groups are very helpful because yo get to interact with others and see other classes at work. You will also be able to kill things faster than by yourself. You will be able to do things that you cant do by yourself without dieing. But you may notice that you get less experience per kill with a group. This is because the experience is split between everyone in the group. This may not be to your liking but its OK cause you kill so much faster that you don't notice the decrease in your leveling time. But beware, if you group with a high level such as a level 70 your experience will be reduced greatly because the game is still trying to split the experience. The 70 would need a lot more of the experience to be the same percentage of their total experience for their level as you you need for your level. So even though the 70 will not receive any experience the game is still splitting it as if they were. If we could get the same experience when we have 70 with us as when we are with players of our level we wouldn't have to work at leveling anymore. We would just have 70 kill everything for us to level. It levels the playing field so to say.

Making money Part two

The last way to make money is by questing. By questing you earn experience points and you get rewards for completing many of the quest. Rewards can be as simple as money or they can be a choice of armor or weapons. Now the money rewards aren’t really that great for the most part but it is money. The real bang for your time is the armor and weapon rewards. They both sell to vendors for a decent profit and allow you to upgrade your armor and weapons without spending money. Another thing about quests most people don’t realize is that a majority of quest force you to grind for drops to complete the quest. Grind is the act of killing everything in an area for drops or experience. In the process of getting the items to complete the quest you are picking up vendor able items. Now, will questing alone make you rich? No. But when combined with your professions and running instances you should never have a problem getting the money you need.

Now that you know how to go about getting that precious copper and silver you’re probably going to want to spend it. This is actually the hardest part of making money for most people. You go into the auction house for the first time or to post items to sell and start looking at all the different things you can buy. And you start to think to yourself how you would like to have so many of the things and how much better they are than what you have. Well you really don’t need them cause you will be able to pick up that same stuff yourself or get better stuff from doing the quest. Another reason you don’t need it is because at this point you are leveling so fast that in a level or two you will pick up something better or get a better reward. So save your money for later when you will need it. Depending on your class you will need a minimum of 100 to 120 gold when you get to level forty. This gold will be used to pay for your class training and the riding training, along with the cost of your mount you can get at level forty. Another need for money is for materials for your professions that you may choose if other than gathering professions. Just remember to only buy the materials you can’t either gather for yourself or make. If you use these tips for making and holding onto money you shouldn’t have any problems with saving the money you will need later.

Making money on Wow

Now that I have told you about the different professions I want to explain ways to use them to make money and prosper in Wow. But before I start let me tell you that professions are not the only way to make money, there are several others, such as quest, instances, and not over spending. I will cover all in this post for you.

So let me start with professions, if you read my previous post you will know what professions work well together to reduce the cost of the crafting professions. Another way to go is to take two gathering professions and then since you don’t need to use them you can sell everything you gather for profit. And then when you get to higher level if you like you can switch one of them to a crafting profession. Leveling that profession up will be easy to match to what level you are at. I prefer to choose skinning and mining for this because the possible profits from herblism are much lower. If this wont work for you because you really wish to make your own armor or bags and such then choose a profession that will help you both make expenses lower and provide a profit. All of the professions can provide this but some are not as good as others. For instance enchanting is probably the worst choice to make if you do not with to be broke all the time. Since you destroy armor and weapons to make materials so you are not able to sell those same items for profit like you normally could. Engineering is another profession that is hard on the pocket book mostly because it’s hard to sell the items you make because you must be an engineer of a certain level to use a lot of them. The other professions, blacksmithing, tailoring, and leatherworking have at least the possibility to sell for profit but their real benefit is that they allow you to make your own armor and weapons. These are the first of the ways to make money at low and even higher levels.

The next best way to make money is to do instances when you are able to start getting in groups for them. Instances allow you to pick up money from loot when you kill a mob. You will also get items of many different kinds. Items with grey names are vendor trash, meaning it of no use but you can sell it to a vendor for money. It may not seem like much but this can add up fast. So loot everything you can get until your bags are full and then only destroy what you have to pick up better loot. The next kind is items with white names, these are items that can be used by other players for different professions and can typically be sold on the auction house although some things have such a high drop rate that it is better to just vendor them. You will only be able to make this decision through experience or add-ons (I will cover add-ons in a sec). The next types of items are green, blue and purple named items. These are very valuable and should be held onto to sell at the auction house. If your bags are full start destroying grey items first and then white ones. This is where the add-ons can come in very helpful. I personally us the add-on auctioneer to keep track of what things to sell for and their value and what ones are worth destroying for something else. You use this add-on by scan the auction house when you go to it and after a few scans a data base builds up that will tell you what the market is on an item so you can know what to sell it for on the auction house. If you do choose to take enchanting as a profession then you will be doing a lot of instances to get the greens to disenchant for you materials. If you do it enough then you can use the extra materials to sell on the auction house for a profit but this does take a lot of time to do. Instances are a larger part of Wow and as such can provide a decent amount of profit for you.

Professions- Ins and Outs

Tonight I'm going to tell you about all the different professions in World of warcraft. There are two main types of professions; primary and secondary. You are only allowed two of the nine primary professions. You are allowed to have all three of the secondary professions. Of the nine primary professions three of them are considered gathering professions and the other six are called crafting professions. Each of the primaries has what is considered my most to be the best partner to it. Usually one is a gathering profession and the other is a crafting. Although what you choose is entirely up to you but with two crafting professions it gets very very expensive. On the other hand if you go with two gathering professions you can auction everything you gather and make lots of money. I have personally gone with the two gathering professions on my lower levels switching one to a crafting profession at around level forty so as to have enough money to get the things I needed and wanted. But now to the fun part, the professions.

I am going to start with the three gathering professions followed by the six primary and finish up with the three secondary professions.

Herbalism- gathering of herbs from plants found in the world. Herbs show up on mini map to show where they are when you get close to them. Used primarily for alchemy but there a few other recipes for other professions that use herbs. This makes in my opinion a bad choice for a gathering professions to make money with.

Mining- gathering of ore and occasionally gems from mines found throughout the world. Like herbalism a dot is shown on the mini map to show where mines are when you get close enough. Once you have the ores you can make them into bars using smelting that is part of the mining profession. Goes good with blacksmithing, engineering, and jewel crafting. This makes ores and bars a good way to make money on the auction house cause of all the people who can use it.

Skinning- gathering of skin from the beast found throughout the world. After killing a beast and then looting the beast you have the option to skin it and loot the leather off the beast. You can also skin other players kills as long as they loot the kill. This is a nice easy free way to get some more mats. I personally like this profession the most cause of the ease with which mats are obtained do to the fact that your always killing things. The leathers are also used in many recipes for tailoring, blacksmithing, engineering, but obviously use the most in leather working.

Alchemy- mix herbs in vials to make potions and elixirs. Some of the potions you can make are healing, mana, rage, swimming speed, and rejuvenation are a few. A few of the elixirs increase strength, armor, health and agility are a few of many. A good second to compliment alchemy is herbalism.

Engineering- combine metals and stones to make explosives, guns, scopes, bullets, and fun things like explosive sheep, googles to increase damage and water breathing and many other fun and useful items. Goes very well with mining cause you are able to mine the metal and stone and occasionally the gems you need for the majority of recipes.

Blacksmithing- use bars of metal to form armor and weapons. A great choice for mail or plate wears because it can reduce the cost of armor at higher levels. Also make swords, maces, daggers, and axes both one handed and two handed. Goes well with mining obviously cause of the heavy use of metals for blacksmithing.

Enchanting- used to make improvements to weapons and armor that increase many types of attributes including added agility, added strength, added health and stamina, and mana regeneration but not limited to those. Also able to make wands for wand caring classes. Enchanting is a very expensive profession because to gain the materials needed to preform the enchants you must destroy a green or better item. So instead of selling the items for profit you are getting just a few mats out of them and you have to collect a lot of greens to get the mats. To try and offset the expenses use any one of the gathering professions to make money.

Jewel crafting- Art of creating jewelry from metal bars and gems. Makes rings, necklaces and trinkets at lower levels and at higher levels you can make sockets for putting on armor and weapons to increase abilities. Goes very well with mining so that you can collect your own metals and gems. I have been told by others that a lot of money can be made with this profession but I do not personally know cause I have yet to be able to try it.

Tailoring- Use cloth to make cloth armor and bags. A really good choice for mages, warlocks, and priest because you can lower you armor cost by making your own. Another great feature of tailoring is bags, everyone needs them and to get them from vendors is expensive and getting them form drops can take a very long time. Tailors make them and can sell them to others meaning a lot of profit can be made.

Leather working- Make leather armor and armor patches from leather gained through skinning. Which means obviously that skinning is a very good choice to go with leather working. Leather armor is pretty easy to understand but armor patches may not be so easy. These are patches that permanently enchant a piece of leg, chest, feet or hand armor to increase armor rating by an amount relative to the size of the armor patch.

Cooking- Use meats and spices to make food to regenerate health and mana. Some recipes also allow you to gain a well feed buff which is usually and increase in stamina and spirit. In my opinion everyone should have and use this profession cause every extra health point can make the difference in a fight.

First Aid- Use cloth to make bandages that regenerate health at a rapid rate. After use you cannot be bandaged again for one minute. Can be used on other players but if you or they take damage in the process of bandaging the bandaging stops and the one minute cool down begins. This can be conflicting with tailoring if you have it but is very important for everyone to have because it can reduce down time between fights.

Fishing- Use a fishing pole to catch fish and other items found in the lakes, ponds and shore lines. The items can be nice and the fish can be necessary to alchemy but in general I find this a waste of time for me. Some people love fishing and spend hours doing it but I would rather kill things, just a personal choice. Give it a try and decide what you like.

So as you can see there are many choice and each one has something to give so you may want to try a few to decide what you like or you may just know that one of them is the one for you. But before you go off and start switching back and forth you need to know that you can switch but do it early if you do. If you spend hours and hours leveling a profession then unlearn it to try something else you lose everything you have learned. If you decide to go back to it you will have to start over. So my suggestion is to start one character choice your professions and if you would like to try others make other characters to try it with in case you don't end up liking it you haven't lost anything.

Class differences

Well with all the talk about how I will run this blog I think its time for me to start. I'm going to start with a list of the nine different classes and a few of the strengths and weaknesses of each. Most of these are derived from my own experiences although I have consulted friends and the World of Warcraft site to confirm my thoughts. So let me start,

Rogue-

strengths- stealth- move around without being seen or fighting

pick pocketing- allows player to get free money and loot

does not use mana but energy which is regained over time for attacks

weaknesses- can only wear leather and cloth making the rogue a bad tank

no real distance attack, can use guns, bows, crossbows, and thrown but only for pulling purposes

costly to keep up with gear at higher levels (directly from guildy who is a very good rogue)

(stealthed and unstealthed)

Warrior-

strengths- the tanking class, meaning you can usually find a group to quest or run instances with

not mana dependent, builds rage through giving and receiving damage in a fight

wears plate, the highest armor rating in Wow, meaning in melee fights they are harder to hurt

weaknesses- no real distance attack, similar to rogue

not much damage output unless fury speced and then its hard to find a group to run with

groups depend on you to keep the aggro mean a lot of responsibility (personally my biggest negative with my warrior)

(level 44)

Priest-

strengths- has buffs for party members and is able to heal self and others

can usually find a group, the two things almost every group needs is a tank and a healer.

can use a wand to reduce the cost of mana when doing damage

weaknesses- can only wear cloth, meaning that in melee fight priest die very quickly

have no abilities that keep mobs at a distance edit: they do have the ability to put mobs at a distance with fear, but this can be bad in a thight area like an instance because it could cause extra aggro. So use it carefully but it can be very helpful

MANA DEPENDENT

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127628787748380162" style="WIDTH: 139px;
(Druid forms)

There is my list :) Now this is just some of the strengths and weaknesses of the classes there are more out there but most others are of personal opinion to the people who play them. But I know for sure that when all added together they work very very well together and in a well formed group almost all the weaknesses are covered by someone elses strengths. So what you choose to play is much a personal choice which is why I say try them all before you really decide or you may miss out on the one that really talks to you and you are best at. Now I wanna say that this is why I play a hunter. I just love it the most. And I deleted the warlock I made cause of how much I hated it. And to me the biggest weakness of my hunter is its dependence on mana. I hate mana. Once your out your in major trouble. But don't let that make you choose one over the other. It just requires you to conserve mana when possible so you have it when needed.

Plans for the future

Now that you know some of my opinions and my game experience I'm going to tell you what this blog is going to focus on. Warcraft! I plan to cover anything and everything about World of Warcraft focusing mostly on things for new players. I will cover topics such as the different classes and their strenghts and weaknesses. The differences between group and solo play adn how best to go about playing them both. Guild and what can make them good and bad and the different types of guilds. Lots of information on the many different professions. The running of instances and questing in the WoW. And I'm sure to come up with many more interesting topics. I will also be doing everything I can to respond to comments and questions. So dont be afraid to ask anything. I will do what I love to do and research the information for you.

Let it start!

Ok so this is my great start. I want to start off with a few opinions just so everyone knows where I'm coming from and a little about me and my experience. You may be asking how I can spend a year playing World of Warcraft and only have a level 44 hunter. Well when I started I made my hunter and after a little bit I wanted to try something else. And a year and ten characters later I'm back to my hunter. I have played one of every class but so far focused on hunter, rogue and warrior classes. All have been leveled into the 40's. At the moment I am also starting a priest to get a good feeling for the healer classes. Now you may be asking why not just pick one and stick with it.
Well this brings us to my first and I feel most important opinion. For me having played every class to near or over twenty I believe I have a very good understanding of how the different classes function. Leveling a worrior to 44 taught me about tanking. Leveling a rogue to 41 taught me about dps migation to reduce aggro. Which in turn I feel makes me a very good hunter. My only weak point as a hunter at this point is crowd control. My other low levels give me a feel for the possible abilities of those classes and how they can be played. So all of this adds up to my believing very strongly that everyone should try ALL classes for a minumium of twenty leveless o that they have a feeling for how the different classes work and their abilities.
Now are there some very good players out there who ohly have one character, probably, but I haven't meet one. I'm sure that if they spent enough time playing and researching about their classes they would be very good. But a lot of people learn through experience. Although researching does help everyone quite a bit. Its not unusual for me to spend half my night reading about how a clas can be played when I first start one. This is my second most important opinion, everyone should research their class to better understand it and where it is going in the levels to come. Now this may make you say to me, but i wanna play, not spend all my time reading. And to that i say play, play, play. But at some point you will have a question and unless your one of the very very fortunet people out there who has a helpful guild you will be searching the internet for the answer. Which is probably why you are here in the first place. I have personally found that the World of Warcraft community site to be very helpful. The class guides almost always have something useful to offer. And with that go check them out at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/classlinks.html and come back for more useful information in the near future.
If you liked what you read and found it helpful tell your friends to check it out. And have fun playing, its the most important part of WoW.

A first of many

Hello, I would like to interduce myself, I go by Miramun on the Maelstrom Server of World of Warcraft. This is what i hope to be the start of a very interesting blog that will help many. My main goal is going to be to help people who are new to the game but also have content that with be good for the experienced gamer. I have been playing for a year now and have several characters. Miramun is my main and is a 45 hunter at the moment but im workhing to get to 70 soon. That may not sound like enough experience to allow me to give advice on how the best to go about playing but I love to research about WoW and have done a lot of it. And I am going to be sharing my hard work with everyone.
